The summer event « Open Space: Cinema in Piazza Grande »returns for its third edition with
films chosen by the Artistic direction of the Festival del film Locarno.
There are three films programmed for the 2010 edition of OPEN SPACE, an event promoted
by the Festival del film Locarno, in collaboration with the Ente iniziative per il Locarnese,
Ticino Turismo, Ente Turistico Lago Maggiore and the Town of Locarno.
The first film Piazza Grande screening, Friday July 30, will be Mammuth, a French road
movie comedy selected for the Official Competition at the Berlin Film Festival. Directed by
Gustave Kervern and Benoît Delépine (Avida, 2006 ; LouiseMichel,
2008), it stars Gérard
Depardieu, as a retired factory worker on a motorbike journey, alongside Yolande Moreau
and Isabelle Adjani.
A sneak preview of an American comedy is promised for Saturday July 31, Letters to Juliet,
set in New York, Verona and Siena. Directed by Gary Winick (Bride Wars - 2009), the film
boasts a truly international cast, with American actress Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia!,
2008), Gael Garcìa Bernal, Franco Nero and the Oscar-winning Vanessa Redgrave.
OPEN SPACE will conclude on Sunday August 1 with another romantic comedy:
L'Arnacoeur, by Pascal Chaumeil, making his feature film debut. A box-office hit in its home
territory, the cast includes Romain Duris, as an unscrupulous professional seducer, and the
famous French singer Vanessa Paradis.
The screenings will start at 21.45, whatever the weather, in Locarno's Piazza Grande.
The films in the programme are original language versions, with subtitles, and are only for
those over 12 years old.
Tickets cost:
20 CHF, with a student discount price of 15 CHF.
A ticket for all three screenings enjoys a reduction 45 CHF, student discount 30 CHF.
Advance tickets can be bought from July 16 at Ticino Turismo in Bellinzona, Lugano Turismo
in Lugano and the Ente turistico Lago Maggiore at ticket counters in Ascona, Brissago and
Locarno.
